My favorite record spot (in my humble birthplace of Monterey, CA.) and always my first stop when back in the 831, is getting a lil’ shine in the audio/visual form of a documentary…thats whatsup!

The RE:ssassination of J.J. By The Coward EarDrumz (2008): Similar to the Kill Bill remixes, except this time I lifted samples and soundbytes from the film “The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford.” The original compositions by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis were lush and beautifully haunting. How it got passed up at the Academy Awards for original score, I dont understand…but what do they know?! I made the beats for this one in a day, and mixed it down the next. I then went through the movie again to find dialogue that fit well with the instrumentals, and sprinkle those on top to help add to the texture and paint a more vivid picture. And presto…”The RE:ssassination!” I also gotta give a special thanks and huge shout out to my main man Sentric (www.myspace.com/beatmanipulator) for coming thru in the clutch and hooking me up with a copy of the soundtrack! Much luv homie!

Back To Black remixes (2007):

Amy Winehouse’s “Back To Black” album inspired me in a way that most current music just doesn’t. This girls got SOUL! without trying too hard to be “vintage” or “throwback” or “taking it back.” When listening to this album, I kept hearing things and thinking “that’d be a dope break…those horns are filthy…what if i chopped that?” so I started with When Will We Get The Time, and decided not to stop there, ended up making beats using samples from the the entire album.
